A Letter From The President:
|
Dear alumni of the Beta Tau Chapter,
In the early years of the Beta Tau chapter, our Psi Kappa Zeta forefathers envisioned a group of men that could collectively accomplish anything. As of the Fall semester of 2006, 22 individuals fit this role. The ideals of our founding Fraternity and the Fraternity our members subscribe to, Alpha Kappa Lambda, are being brought to the forefront of the minds of every active in the organization.
In the Spring, the active chapter began an initiative to improve its self by focusing on grades, involvement, and service. The mind set was if we put ourselves in positions strong leadership and scholarship, so will be the type of member we will attract. Our plan was a success. In the Spring, the active chapter had a cumulative GPA of 2.84, the highest our chapter has had in more than a decade. The GPA was over and above the all men’s and all-fraternity’s average. Tied to that, we had six of our members make the Dean’s List. We also achieved the highest number of service hours per any chapter at SIUE, with the large majority of those hours coming through the assistance of CAB, Student Government, and other various campus service opportunities. And finally, 14 of our members got involved in other campus opportunities; ranging from CAB, to Student Government, to the Alestle. Needless to say, our members got involved.
Now, this chapter is working like a well oiled machine. We have a recruitment goal for this semester of 25 men. The best part of our goals for the semester is that it is very attainable and well-planned. Our guys are everywhere; pushing AKL like their lives depend on it and it is a sight to behold.
Our last big initiative this semester is to rekindle the Alumni love for AKL. The Beta Tau chapter is about to embark on a time of great prosperity and we need your help. Your knowledge, leadership, and your presence will help guide us to further success. I, Kevin Coppinger (314)283-6208, or our Alumni Relations Chair, Ryan Monken (618)322-1974, will do everything in our power to provide you with a positive alumni experience that will lead to an Affiliation Kindled for Life!
In conclusion, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and hope to see some, if not all of you this semester. As our National President said of the 2006 Conclave, what a great time to be an AKL!
Fraternally,
Kevin Coppinger Beta Tau ‘03 |

SIUE To Build Fourth Residence Hall
Scheduled to open in Fall 2007, Evergreen Hall will be the newest Residence Hall to join the University Housing family at SIU Edwardsville. Our fourth residence hall, located at the corner of Circle Drive and Whiteside Road, will accommodate 511 residents and will bring the total on campus student population to approximately 3500. Evergreen will house upperclass and graduate students in a mostly apartment-style atmosphere. (Click here to view living unit layouts.) The three and a half story, 190,000 square foot building will also contain a 4,800 sq. ft. multifunction room, two classrooms, fitness facility, four student organization offices, a conference room, and 24-hour computer lab. Residents of Evergreen Hall will be able to enjoy the community overlook, a half-court basketball court, walking trail, and barbecue area. A 550-space parking lot will be conveniently located next to the facility. The Beta Tau chapter is discussing plans on occupying one of the student organization offices until it can come up with finances for a chapter house.
SIUE To Host First Homecoming Football Game On October 7th, 2006, Southern Illinois U of Edwardsville will see its first kick-off to a homecoming football game. For the last two years, a group of men have been actively recruiting SIUE students to join the highly publicized SIUE Football Club. The team had four games last season, two of which were held in Bunker Hill’s football stadium. This year’s games will take place in the lot across from the Valdabene on SIUE’s campus. The Cougars will take the field on Saturday of homecoming weekend at 1:00 p.m. For more info on SIUE’s homecoming, check the calendar at the end of this newsletter.
