"Graduation is not the end of your journey with Alpha Kappa Lambda...its just the beginning!" - Keith GilchristRemember your Ritual? The initiation ritual that made us all brothers? Did you know that during that ritual you became a member of our life-long Fraternity, not just an undergraduate experience? Membership in Alpha Kappa Lambda means membership in a National brotherhood; An Affiliation Kindled for Life! The experience as an alumnus is one that can lead you to new plateaus of friendship with alumni brothers from our chapter. It can lead you to professional opportunities through networking that are rewarding for dozens of years. It may lead you to activities in board management or advisory support that revitalize your association with the Beta Tau chapter. Your experience may offer you financial benefits like tax incentives for donating to AKL's Education Foundation, or the personal fulfillment of assisting in the development of undergraduate AKL's. Most of all, alumni membership, like collegiate membership, is what you make it. The more effort you put into it, the more you get in return.
Mentor: Mentoring is simply becoming friends and acting as a guide to another AKL brother. Upholding the bonds of brotherhood at its most basic level implies making each other better men. Whether this involves employment assistance, professional advice, personal counseling, or a mixture of all three, this is the most basic form of remembering your Fraternity. Advisory Support: A more formalized approach to mentoring could entail you becoming a Chapter Advisor or a member of the alumni advisory board for our chapter. As Chapter Advisor you may work individually or with an Advisor Team of other alumni, parents, and faculty-each taking a different area of chapter operations and guiding the undergraduate membership toward fulfillment of their goals. The current Beta Tau Chapter Advisor is Sean McMeen. Sean be contacted at: smcmeen@gmail.com Chapter Corporation Board: Corporation Board involvement entails working with the business side of chapter operations. This does not mean that you cannot mentor collegiate members, only that your official capacity is serving the membership initiated by the chapter as a sitting director on the board. This involves supervising most aspects of housing and long term strategic planning for the chapter. It does NOT involve taking a hands-on approach to the chapter's operations. For your information, contact Rob Seay at: aklrob1@yahoo.com Alumni Chapter: The Alumni Chapter is a group of alumni in a geographic location that meet on a regular basis to conduct business or just to have fun! The basic purpose of an Alumni Chapter is to maintain contact with your Fraternity. As members, you can share and benefit from each other's personal, civic, and professional experiences and interests. An Alumni Chapter can create publicity for AKL and see that items of special alumni interest gain attention in the local media. For information on the St. Louis Alumni Chapter, contact Sean King at: stlouisking@hotmail.com Financial Support: The most common form of remembering your Fraternity is financially. If you wish, you can contribute directly to your own chapter by gifting to an earmarked account within the Foundation. The Beta Tau chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda has recently formed an endowment fund to provide our undergraduate members the support and resources that we alumni never had the opportunity to experience as active members. To donate to the endowment fund, send your tax deductible donations to:
The checks should be made out to: The AKL Education Foundation - Beta Tau Fund The AKL Education Foundation was established as a Section 501 (c) (3) tax-deductible organization. It provides funding to chapters and individual scholarship options. The Foundation contributes to the development of every chapter; whether it is through chapter loans or educational services. You may not have realized it as an undergraduate...but it was there.
